Durkin, Roessler return to world stage in FIL World Championships

Bryn Athyn College men’s lacrosse head coach Tucker Durkin and women's lacrosse head coach Denise Roessler both return to the world stage at the 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships in Israel. Durkin will don a Team USA jersey and play in the American defense corps, while Roessler will represent the German National Women's Lacrosse Team as an assistant coach.

Durkin is playing in his second straight FIL World Championships for Team USA. This year's edition of the tournament features 45 other countries playing through 170 games, fighting for world dominance. The FIL World Championships begin Thursday, July 12, with the final championship game played on Saturday, July 21.

In the 2014 FIL Championships, Durkin proved his star power in the international world of lacrosse as he was selected as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Defenseman and named to the All-World Team.

Durkin just completed his third season as Bryn Athyn's men's lacrosse head coach. In 2018, the Lions went 9-7 overall and reached the championship match of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament. Bryn Athyn had nine players named to the All-NEAC team, led by NEAC Offensive Player of the Year Cameron Leech. Durkin is 26-20 at the helm of the Lions and been to three NEAC Tournaments.

Roessler will help coach the Germans in the 2018 World Lacrosse Festival, an event that is being held in conjunction with the FIL World Cup. She was assistant for Team Germany during the 2017 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup in England. The Germans recorded a 14th-place finish in the 25-team event.

Roessler led the Bryn Athyn women's lacrosse program to its best season in program history in 2018. The Lions posted a program-record nine wins, won its first postseason contest with a 17-10 win over Wells in the NEAC first round, and reached the NEAC Tournament semifinals. Bryn Athyn--led by NEAC Rookie of the Year Bri Lennox--had four players on the All-NEAC Team. In four seasons at Bryn Athyn, Roessler has won 23 matches.
