Men's Ice Hockey Edges Past Nationally Ranked #9 Richard Stockton, 6-5

Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team defeated nationally ranked #9 Richard Stockton 6-5 in non conference play Wednesday night.

Ray Norfo led the Lions with two goals and an assist. Terrence Johnson and Blake McCurdy recorded two goals each. Drew Collins had three assists, and Danny Triesler had two assists.

During the first period of play, momentum switched back and forth between the Lions and the Ospreys. 15 minutes into the first period, Matthew Bartalini made a split- glove bang- bang save on a 2 on 1, followed by a split second glove save on a rebound attempt, robbing Richard Stockton of a goal. With 24 seconds left in the period, Bryn Athyn got on the board first when Collins and Norfo connected with Johnson who scored off the crossbar.

Richard Stockton came out strong in the second, scoring three minutes into the period to tie the game. At the 8:47 mark the Ospreys took the lead. Bryn Athyn's McCurdy answered less than a minute later with a backdoor unassisted goal, to tie the game at 2-2. Two minutes later, Norfo took advantage of a failed clear attempt in the neutral zone, as he dove and trickled the puck over the goalie, giving the Lions a 3-2 lead. With 4 minutes left in the period, Collins connected with McCurdy who poked the puck across the goal line, giving the Lions a two goal advantage.

At the beginning of the third period, Richard Stockton chipped away at Bryn Athyn's lead, with a goal at the 17:00 mark. With a Bryn Athyn player in the box for tripping, Stockton tied the game 4-4 at the 9:00 mark. Two minutes later, Collins and Triesler found Johnson, who scored a backdoor goal, to give the Lions the lead. At the 4:48 mark, Triesler passed the puck into the slot and connected with Norfo who found the back of the net, increasing Bryn Athyn's lead to 6-4. The Ospreys pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, and with a one man advantage scored at the 1:18 mark. Richard Stockton kept on the attack, but it was not enough to take down the Lions.

Bartalini recorded 46 saves in his first career start at Bryn Athyn.

The Lions travel to the Prudential Center to face NJIT on January 13th. The puck drops at 8:45 pm.
