Men's Ice Hockey Drops to Rowan in DVCHC Action

Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team fell to Rowan University 6-4 in conference play Friday night.

Blake McCurdy led the Lions with two goals, while Terrence Johnson added a goal and one assist.

During the first period of play, momentum switched back and forth between the Lions and the Profs. Bryn Athyn got on the board first at the 10:58 mark, when Johnson escaped a body check, gained control of the puck, and wrapped around the goalie for the goal. Rowan tied the game up at the 7:55 mark. The Lions answered two minutes later when Drew Collins won the faceoff and connected with McCurdy who found the back of the net. Forty seconds later, the Profs tied the game again at 2-2. At the 3:06 mark, Jordan Roth centered the puck into the slot and connected with McCurdy, who one timed it in, for his second goal of the game. With 18 seconds left in the period, Rowan answered again, tying the game at 3-3.  

Rowan took a 4-3 lead in the second period, scoring a goal at the 10:22 mark. With 24 seconds left in the period, the Lions scored with a man down, when Johnson skated down the ice through the defenders, and passed the puck to Raymond Norfo who put it into the net, tying the game at 4-4.

The Profs went on to score 2 goals in the third period, beating Bryn Athyn 6-4.

Matthew Bartalini recorded 40 saves between the pipes.

Assistant Coach Steve Gramiak expressed "The boys played tough tonight and it was a good showing of how we have to play tomorrow. We hope to get them in the playoffs."

Bryn Athyn heads on the road Saturday,  January 21st to face conference opponent Widener University at Aston IceWorks. The puck is set to drop at 8:45pm.
