Aston, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team fell to conference opponent Widener 4-2 in Saturday night action.
After coming off an emotional loss to DVCHC opponent Rowan, the team came out determined to gain two points against Widener. The Pride opened the period notching the first goal. Bryn Athyn played tough through out the first period to keep the game within one.
Widener came out scoring in the second period to take a two-goal lead. Later in the period, Bryn Athyn cut the lead in half as Ray Norfo scored a power play goal assisted by Jordan Roth and Dustin Synnestvedt. The Lions continued to pressure Widener but were met with solid goaltending. Later, the Pride scored their third even strength goal of the game and the second period ended with Bryn Athyn trailing behind.
The Pride scored their fourth goal of the night to give a three-goal lead a minute into the third period. Bryn Athyn battled through the third period generating the majority of their shots of the game. Late in the period Charlie Livens received a pass from Roth and notched the Lions second power play goal with 4:30 remaining in the game. With 1:52 remaining, penalties to both teams created a 4-on-4 situation. Coach Puscian chose to pull goaltender Matthew Bartalini in favor of an extra forward. A few seconds later BAC was aided as Widener received a bench minor penalty creating essentially a 5 on 3 opportunity for the remaining couple minutes of the game. The Lions continued their pressure for the remainder of the game, but were unable to find the back of the net. Bryn Athyn was outshot 30 to 25.
The Lions head back home to face Rutgers-Camden on Friday night. Puck drops at 8:00 pm.
