Gunther leads field hockey to first-ever CSAC win, 3-1 over Notre Dame (Md.)

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Brittany Gunter recorded a goal and an assist as the Bryn Athyn College field hockey team picked up its first-ever Colonial States Athletic Conference victory, 3-1 over the College of Notre Dame (Md.) Wednesday night on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.

Gunther opened the scoring just 4:02 in the contest with her first goal of the season. After a Lion corner, Gunther was able to locate the loose ball during a scrum in front of the Gator net and fired it past Fallon Katz for the goal.

On the Lions' second goal, Gunther picked an assist as she located Bri Lennox with a pass at the right post and Lennox buried it into the open net at 7:03 to double the Bryn Athyn (2-6, 1-2 CSAC) lead. It was Lennox's third goal of 2018.

Payton Boler increased the advantage to three at the 20:06 mark on a penalty corner by firing a laser from the left wing by Katz to tally her third goal. Eve Miller picked up an assist as she found Boler to start the sequence.

Notre Dame (3-8, 0-5 CSAC) broke up the shutout with 3:09 remaining when Kelsey Campbell scored at the right post after a feed from Megan Morales.

Kailey Brower picked up her first collegiate victory with a seven-save performance. Chantal Farmer chipped with a defensive save. Katz finished up with 11 saves for Notre Dame.

The Lions owned a 23-12 edge in shots and a 14-9 advantage in penalty corners.

Bryn Athyn will host Wilson in a CSAC battle on Friday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
