WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team had four players hit double figures in an 81-63 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) loss to host Gallaudet Wednesday night.
Rahim Washington, Lamarr Crenshaw, and Christian Rivera all co-led Bryn Athyn (8-15, 5-9 NEAC) with 11 points each. Washington added eight rebounds and two rebounds, while Crenshaw recorded six rebounds. Larry Stevenson III contributed 10 points, four assists, and three steals.
James Flagg led the Lions' rebounding effort with nine boards.
After falling behind 7-2 in the opening 2:30, Washington knocked down the first of four Lion 3-pointers at 17:12 to bring Bryn Athyn within 7-5. Gallaudet (7-15, 7-7 NEAC) answered back with eight straight points to open up a 15-5 advantage.
Later in the half, the Lions ran off six consecutive points and cut the Bison's 10-point advantage to 17-13 on a Stevenson III triple with 11:53 remaining in the half.
Gallaudet attempted to pull away once again, this time going on a 12-4 surge to widen its lead to 29-17 at the 8:25 mark of the half. The Lions had another rally in them as Bryn Athyn, led by four Stevenson III points, poured in nine points in a row over a 3:27 span to close within 29-26. Rivera would make it a one-point game (31-30) when he drained two free throws with 3:43 left in the half.
Gallaudet ended the half on a 10-2 run to lead 41-32 at the break.
The Bison kept their momentum going during the start of the second 20 minutes play, going on a 14-4 in the first 5:06 to widen the gap to 55-36. Bryn Athyn got as close as 55-40 with 14:03 left in the contest on a Crenshaw layup.
Noah Valencia was 7-of-13 from 3-point range to lead Gallaudet with 31 points. Andy Cruz added 13 points, while Lance Wood came off the bench to score 10 points.
The Lions shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the floor, 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from 3-point range. Gallaudet made 47.8 percent (32-of-67) of its shots, 35.1 percent (13-of-37) of its 3-pointers.
Bryn Athyn returns to Asplundh Field House for the final time this season on Saturday, Feb. 10 to take on Penn State Berks in a NEAC contest at 1 p.m. The Lions will recognize seniors Rivera, Flagg, and Nicko Bails prior to the game in a Senior Day ceremony.
