ASTON, Pa. – Brycon Johnson recorded a pair of power-play goals for the Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team in a 6-4 loss to Neumann University Saturday night.
Both teams had success on the man advantage as the Lions (7-10-1) went 3-for-8 on the power play, while the Knights (7-13-2) scored on two of their four power plays. Neumann also added a short-handed goal.
Neumann's Corey Kennedy started off a high-scoring opening period with an even-strength goal just 1:31 into the contest. Johnson leveled the score at one at 3:53 on the Lions' first power play of the evening with assists from Alex Tan and Nikita Smirnov.
Eric Madison put Neumann back in the lead at the 11:15 mark of the period. Bryn Athyn cashed in on its second straight man advantage when Alec Grollman scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season at 15:08. Mike Perkett on the equalizer. The game remained even at two for only 59 seconds thanks to a Liam Board goal.
Zach Pamaylaon got the second period underway by scoring an even-strength goal with 3:57 off the block to bring the Lions back level at three. After Neumann's Joe Mitchell scored a short-handed goal to put the home team pick up one, Johnson found the back of the net on the power play for the second time, assisted by Tan and Smirnov, at 14:33 to make the score 4-4. Neumann regained the lead going into the second intermission on a Mitchell power-play goal with 1:18 left in the period.
Jake Davidson broke the string of alternating goals when he tacked on an insurance goal on the power play at 11:47 of the third to make the score 6-4.
Lion netminder McKenzie Chalmers stopped 38 shots for Bryn Athyn. Neumann's Sammy Bernard made 34 saves.
Bryn Athyn travels to SUNY Canton for a weekend series with the Kangaroos starting on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
