WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team allowed two third period goals and fell to Wilkes University 4-2 in the Lions' final game in 2018 Wednesday night in the Toyota SportsPlex.
The Colonels' Angelo Marquart snapped a 2-all tie at the 1:20 mark of the third period with an even-strength goal that was assisted by Wade Novak. Michael Gurska tacked on an empty-net goal with 1:13 left in the contest to provide the final margin.
Wilkes (8-4-0) jumped out to a 1-0 advantage when Chris Dalfarra scored just 4:59 after the opening faceoff. Bryn Athyn's Isaac Anderson leveled the score at one with a power-play goal, his third goal of the season, at the 12:48 mark of the first. Devon Becker and Alec Grollman both assisted on the equalizer.
Grollman completed a two-day night by scoring his team-leading sixth goal of the season at 9:28 into the second period to give the Lions (4-10-0) a 2-1 lead. Mike Perkett and Connor Devereux each picked up an assist.
The Lion lead was short-lived as Wilkes' Donald Flynn answered back 1:38 Grollman's goal to even the score.
McKenzie Chalmers recorded 39 saves on 43 shots for the Lions. The 39 saves for the second-most by Chalmers this season. Wilkes' Brandon Gordon stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced.
Bryn Athyn was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Wilkes went 0-for-3.
Bryn Athyn is off until Friday, Jan. 4 when the Lions take on Cortland State in the first round of the 54th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament at 4 p.m. at UMass-Boston.
