Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's lacrosse team fell 11-9 to Mt. St. Mary in Tuesday afternoon action.
Dana Ayers led the Lions' offense with four goals. Travis McCurdy recorded two goals, an assist, and 11 ground balls. Graham Lermitte notched one goal and two assists, while Christian Blair added two goals. James Lindrooth led the defense with nine ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Bryn Athyn got on the board first at the 11:51 mark in the first quarter, when Ayers scored an unassisted goal. At the 1:53 mark, Lermitte lobbed the ball to Blair for the goal. Mt. St. Mary answered 53 seconds later, to bring the game within one.
In the second quarter, Mt. St. Mary scored at the 14:09 mark to tie the game at 2-2. Six seconds later, McCurdy won the faceoff and scored an unassisted goal. At the 13:23 mark, McCurdy passed to Ayers on the opposite wing for a goal. Three minutes later, Lermitte passed over the crease to Ayers who hit the bottom left corner, giving the Lions a 5-2 lead. Less than a minute later, the Knights answered to bring the game within two. At the 9:21 mark, McCurdy weaved through traffic and scored an unassisted goal. At the 5:52 mark the Knights scored to chip away at the Lions' lead. With 4:28 left in the second, Lermitte scooped the ball into the upper left corner for an unassisted goal.
During the third quarter, Ayers deked the defenders at the 13:48 mark to score an unassisted goal. Three minutes later Blake Cole found Blair at the top of the crease for a one-timer goal. Mt. St. Mary went on to score four more goals in the third.
During the final quarter, the Knights came out strong, scoring three goals to defeat the Lions 11-9.
The Lions return to the field Thursday, April 11th to host Merchant Marine. The game is set for 4:30pm.
