BRYN ATHYN, Pa. -- The Bryn Athyn College men's lacrosse team went into the fourth quarter of its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest against Morrisville State leading 9-8, but gave up three fourth-quarter goals and fell to the visiting Mustangs 11-9 on Wednesday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
The Lions (2-6, 1-1 NEAC) put together a strong performance on both ends of the field during the third quarter to turn an 8-6 halftime deficit into a 9-8 advantage.
Andrew Coyle snapped a nearly nine-and-a-half minute string of scoreless lacrosse with his ninth goal of the season to bring the Lions within 8-7. Forty-three seconds later, Jon Carr capped a five-goal performance with his final goal of the afternoon to level the score with 4:55 left in the quarter. Nolan Frame ripped a shot into the Morrisville State net (3-7, 2-0 NEAC) with 49 seconds on the clock to give Bryn Athyn the lead.
Cameron Leech assisted on all three third-quarter goals. Leech ended the match with one goal and six assists.
On the defensive end of the field, Brad DePasquale made six saves.
Logan Peters stole the momentum back for the visiting Mustangs with the game-tying goal at the 10:33 mark of the final quarter. The match remained deadlocked at nine until Brad Biggs scored six minutes after Peters' equalizer to put Morrisville State in front. Chris Dovi tacked on an insurance goal with 1:40 left.
Bryn Athyn finished off a back-and-forth opening quarter with a man-up goal from Carr and an even-strength goal from Nolan Bosserman in the final 1:55 to take a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes. Carr scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter, one while playing a man-up, to widen the gap to 6-4. With his two goals in the quarter, Carr took over the team-lead in goals with 22.
Morrisville State ended the first half with four consecutive goals to lead 8-6 at the break.
Peters ended up leading the Mustangs with three goals. Zach Palin and Eric Fisher had two goals and one assist each, while Biggs and Dovi both contributed one goal and two assists. Joe Piedgrossi and Bryan Cline added one goal.
DePasquale finished up with 11 saves for the Lions. Dan Sherlock stopped three shots in the Morrisville State net. Morrisville State outshot Bryn Athyn 37-24.
After wrapping up its season-long four-match home stand, Bryn Athyn goes on the road to face Hilbert in a NEAC match on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. at St. Francis High School in Hamburg, N.Y.
