Men's soccer drops season finale to Gwynedd Mercy 5-1

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team dropped its season finale to Gwynedd Mercy University, 5-1 in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon at the Gwynedd Mercy Athletic Complex.

After a fairly even start to the contest, the host Griffins (2-15-1) took control of the match when Matt Bachmann broke the scoreless deadlock at 23:04 with the first goal of the day after making a long run down the win.

Rob DiPierro doubled Gwynedd Mercy's lead at the 40:11 mark. Cole Smith sent DiPierro 1-on-1 against Lion keeper AJ Clark with a through ball down the middle of the Bryn Athyn (5-11-0) defense.

The score remained 2-0 until Bachmann found the back of the net for the second time in the match at 53:54. Brian Pease picked up an assist on the goal. Just under three minutes later, Tim Dailey put home the Griffins' fourth goal.

David Camara, playing in his final match for Bryn Athyn, broke up the clean sheet with a low-angle shot from the left side of the penalty area with 2:44 left in the match. He ends his career with 28 goals and 65 points, both program records.

Ryan Oyola, who started the match as the Griffins' keeper, completed the scoring by converting a free kick from 20 yards away in the match's final minute. In addition to the goal, he stopped three shots in 60:36.

Kace Peters played the final 29:24 in net for Gwynedd Mercy and made two spots. Clark made five saves in his first start in goal of 2017.

Gwynedd Mercy owned an 18-12 shot advantage.
