BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Zach Brock and Peter Comas will be team captains for the Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team for the 2018 season. Edgar Rodriguez and Jake Elder will assist the duo on game days as game-day captains. The announcement was made by head coach Bill O'Neill Wednesday.
"We want to continue to build this program with a strong focus on character and chemistry," said O'Neill. "Our 2018 roster is filled with seniors, who have experienced a tough road the last three seasons. We enter the season with a focus to finally reach our full potential. I feel we have put together a leadership group together that will lead us into finally finding success on and off the field."
Brock has appeared in 34 games, 21 as a starter, in the first two years of his Lions career. He has scored eight goals and added two assists. In 2017, Brock played in 16 games and was second on the team with four goals and fourth with eight points. He scored game-winning goals against Cazenovia and Saint Elizabeth.
Comas contributed three goals, including the game-winning goals against Cairn, in 15 matches during his freshman campaign. He made his first collegiate start at Valley Forge on October 3, 2017.
Rodriguez enters his senior season having stepped on the field for Bryn Athyn 46 times, 41 as a starter. He has five career goals and five career assists. Rodriguez, primarily a defensive midfielder, had a career-year offensively for the Lions in 2017 as he scored four times and ended up with 10 points, both placed him second on the team.
In the first three years of his career, Elder has been a part of the Bryn Athyn backline in 43 matches. He has started in all 34 games over the last two seasons. Last season, Elder scored two goals, including the game-winner at Clarks Summit on September 9, 2017.
"Jake, Edgar, Zach, and Pete each will bring the character traits we need to during our 2018 campaign," stated O'Neill. "I am excited about this upcoming season, as we enter a new conference and the opportunity to make an imprint on the program's history."
Bryn Athyn begins the 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 with a non-conference contest at Lancaster Bible.
