Lions take down Keystone 7-2 to win its CSAC debut

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's tennis was victorious in its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) debut as the Lions cruised to a 7-2 win over host Keystone College Friday afternoon.

With the victory, Bryn Athyn improves to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the CSAC, while Keystone dropped its season and conference opener.

The Lions got off to a strong start with wins in two of the three doubles matches.

Zach Brock and Jacob Elder improved to 2-0 at No. 2 doubles thanks to a hard-fought 8-6 triumph over the Keystone tandem of Colin Franko and Liam McGranahan. Tanner Schroeder and Max Nelson were successful in their first match together, defeating JT Colapietro and Jeremiah Thomas 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Nikita Smirnov narrowly squeaked past Sean Lape 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 to claim the No. 1 singles match and notch his first win of the season. Elder also won a tight match at No. 4 against McGranahan by a 6-4, 7-5 (7-5) margin to earn his first win.

Brock, Schroeder, and Nelson all had an easier time to pick up wins in their respective matches.

Brock was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Greenip at No. 3 singles. Schroeder got by Colapietro in the No. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-2. Nelson cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 against Thomas.

Bryn Athyn gets right back to work with a CSAC match against visiting Rosemont on Saturday, March 23 at noon.
