Merchant Marine Slips Past Women's Lacrosse 12-7

Kings Point, NY – The Bryn Athyn College women's lacrosse team fell on the road to Merchant Marine, 12-7 in Saturday afternoon action.

Haley Schmucker, Sierra Asplundh and Erika Hyatt scored two goals each. Emma Gross scored a goal for the Lions. 

Merchant Marine got on the board quick, with a goal 31 seconds into the half.  Hyatt scored at the 23:11 to tie the game at 1-1. Schmucker scored two back to back goals to lift the Lions 3-1 with 19:13 left.  USMMA scored five unanswered goals to build a 6-3 lead. Asplundh scored with 2:40 left in the first half to bring the game within two. Merchant Marine scored with 1:57 in the first.

Hyatt scored first in the second to chip away at the USMMA lead to 7-5.  Merchant Marine scored three goals to build their lead 10-6 with 21:47 left in the second. Gross scored with 17:44 to keep the Lions within four.  USMMA scored two goals to build a six-goal lead. Asplundh scored with 6:58 left in the second, but Merchant Marine walked away with a 12-7 win.

Bryn Athyn returns to the field tomorrow to play University of Dallas at Neumann University. The game is set for 4:00 pm.
