Women's Lacrosse Tops Cedar Crest 14-8

Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College women's lacrosse team defeated Cedar Crest 14-8 in Thursday afternoon action.

Haley Schmucker led the Lions with seven goals and six ground balls. Sierra Asplundh added three goals, one assist, eight ground balls, and three caused turnovers, while Erika Hyatt tallied two goals and one assist. Brettie Pitcairn recorded one goal and an assist, while Elizabeth Bandura notched one goal.

The Lions got on the board first at the 20:33 mark when Hyatt connected with Asplundh. Bandura scored 39 seconds later to give Bryn Athyn a 2-0 lead. The Lions scored four more goals in the half to take a 6-0 lead going into the break.

Cedar Crest came out strong in the second, scoring two quick goals to chip away at Bryn Athyn's lead. Pitcairn answered at the 23:50 mark to put the Lions on top 7-2. Back to back goals from Schmucker gave Bryn Athyn a commanding 9-2 lead. Cedar Crest scored at 15:43, and Schmucker answered 14 seconds later to put the Lions in front 10-3. Schmucker tallied three more goals in the half, while Asplundh recorded one. The Lions went on to defeat Cedar Crest 14-8.

Before the game, the Lions honored four seniors, Sierra Asplundh, Erika Hyatt, Amber Cineus and Caitlin Smith for their dedication to the team throughout the season.

The Lions head on the road Thursday, April 24th to face Bryn Mawr in their final game of the season. The game is slated for 4:30pm.
