BRYN ATHYN, Pa. -- The Bryn Athyn College women's lacrosse team put together a dominating performance from start to finish as the Lions opened the 2018 season with a 10-0 non-conference victory over visiting Mount Saint Vincent Saturday on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
Sarah Smith--a transfer from Division II North Greenville University--led the offensive effort with five goals and three draw controls in her Bryn Athyn (1-0) debut. Sabrina Colbridge racked up three goals, one assist, five ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Bri Lennox added one goal and two assists, while Breanna Sweeney scored once.
Goalie Aanja Weisser stopped seven Dolphin shots to record her second career shutout and the second shutout in program history. The first time Bryn Athyn held a team scoreless was March 31, 2015 when the Lions blanked the College of Saint Elizabeth 15-0.
The Lions forced 30 Dolphin (0-1) turnovers and won the ground ball battle 27-15. Bryn Athyn outshot Mount Saint Vincent 31-12.
Colbridge wasted little time getting the Lions out in front, scoring on Bryn Athyn's first shot of the season just 37 seconds into the contest. Smith doubled the advantage nearly two minutes later after receiving a pass from Laura Clymer.
The match remaining 2-0 until the 13:52 mark of the half when Colbridge scored her second unassisted goal of the contest. After Lennox scored her first collegiate goal to make the score 4-0, Smith recorded the final three goals over the final 9:22 of the half to give the Lions a 7-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Smith capped off her five-goal day with an unassisted goal at the 26:42 mark. Colbridge and Sweeney rounded out the scoring with free-position goals.
The Dolphins' Allyson Weakliem made 12 saves.
Bryn Athyn returns to action on Saturday, March 17 against Westminster (Pa.) at noon on General Nelson Field.
