BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Shelby Puccio (Southampton, Pa./William Tennett) continued her strong offensive start to the 2017 season and Allie Warren (Tower City, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) was solid in goal as the Bryn Athyn College women's soccer team knocked off visiting Rosemont College 2-0 in a non-conference match on a rainy Wednesday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
After recording the first hat-trick in program history in the season opener last Friday, Puccio—the reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference offensive player of the week—scored both of the Lions' (2-0-0) goals in Wednesday's victory giving her five during the early stages of the campaign.
Puccio needed only 2:20 to put the Lions in front as chased down a Kristen White (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) pass on the right wing and then chipped the ball over a charging Teagan Dawson from the right corner of the penalty area into the open net.
Then, Bryn Athyn leaned on Warren to make the goal early stand up. Over the next 66 minutes, Rosemont (2-1-0) would take 23 shots at the Bryn Athyn net. Six of those 23 shots were on target and Warren stopped them all to keep the game at 1-0.
At the 71:24 mark, Puccio struck for the second time to give the Lions a needed insurance goal. She slammed in a rebound at the right post after White took the initial shot from the other side of the net that Dawson couldn't control.
Warren closed out the match with three additional saves to end up with nine in the match—the third most in her career—and her second consecutive shutout.
Dawson stopped one shot for Rosemont—who owned a 30-5 shot advantage.
Bryn Athyn hits the road for the first time this season to face Clarks Summit in a non-conference match on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
