BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Shelby Puccio, Gracelyn Bullard, and Shauna Breen will serve as tri-captains for the Bryn Athyn College women's soccer team in the 2018 season. The announcement was made by head coach Bill O'Neill Wednesday.
"I am excited about this group leading our team going into the 2018 season," said O'Neill. "Shelby, Shauna, and Gracelyn each bring different leadership attributes to the role of captain. All three were part of our inaugural season in 2016 and key parts to our playoff run in 2017."
Puccio and Bullard have started all 34 games in the program's two-year history, while Breen appeared in 31 contests as a starter.
Puccio had a record-setting season for Bryn Athyn in 2017 as she scored 20 goals, which placed her second in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and 16th in Division III, to earn a place 2017 All-NEAC second team. Puccio has a program-best 27 goals, including 7 match winners, and 2 assists in her career.
Bullard, the Lions' starting left back, and Breen, a defensive midfielder, both had a major role in Bryn Athyn's defensive improvement last season as the team posted a 1.39 goals against average and seven shutouts. The Lions were ranked third in the NEAC in shutouts and fifth in goals against average. In 2016, the Lions had a 2.16 goals against average and three shutouts.
Breen has also contributed on the offensive end of the field with four career goals, two in each season.
"I am confident they will be able to fill the shoes of Shannon Mueller and Rachel McCabe, who were captains in 2017," praised O'Neill. "I look forward to taking the next step in growing our program with this group and believe we are moving in the right direction with quality character student-athletes."
Bryn Athyn begins the 2018 season with a non-conference contest at Lancaster Bible on Friday, August 31.
