ALTOONA, Pa. – Payton Gormley scored the first two goals in her collegiate career for the Bryn Athyn College women's soccer team in a 5-2 non-conference road loss to Penn State Altoona Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 4-0, Ashley Rivera earned a free kick for Bryn Athyn as she was taken down by a Penn State Altoona defender with 10:21 left in the contest. Gormley stepped to take the kick from the just outside the left corner of the penalty area and swung the ball inside the right post to get the Lions on the board.
Gormley scored again 45 seconds later on another free-kick opportunity. This time, the free kick came from 30 yards away directly in front of the goal. Gormley put the ball on goal and it went just under the crossbar and out of the reach of a leaping Diana Miller.
Sam Jones ended the Bryn Athyn comeback attempt with Penn State Altoona's fifth goal of the day, coming with 6:13 left.
Penn State Altoona (1-2-1) led 3-0 after 45 minutes of play on goals by KK Wolfe, Sarah Huston, and Paige Morse. Sadie McConnell made the gap 4-0 by scoring with 24 minutes left in the contest.
Bryn Athyn's Allie Warren made 10 saves in 79:39 of action. She was relieved in goal by Lyss Bosler, who stopped three shots. For Penn State Altoona, Kaitlyn Harmon stopped all four shots she faced in the first half and Miller finished with one save.
Bryn Athyn (1-2-0) will play its first home game of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 10 against Brooklyn College at 7 p.m.
