BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team was upended by visiting Lancaster Bible College 3-0 (25-8, 25-21, 25-8) in a North Eastern Athletic Conference match Monday night in Asplundh Field House.
Hannah Dewees (Bryn Athyn, Pa./ANC Girls School) racked up six kills and four digs for the Lions., while Alexis Juritsch Bryn Athyn, Pa./ANC Girls School) had two kills and four digs. Amber Wood (Warminster, Pa./William Tennett) contributed seven assists and eight digs.
Lancaster Bible (2-3, 1-0 NEAC) used 13-2 run to open up a 13-3 set-one lead. After Bryn Athyn closed the gap to single digits (13-4), the Chargers ended the set with a 12-4 surge.
The Lions jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead to open the second set. Lancaster Bible came back to even the set at five, but Bryn Athyn was able to reestablish a two-point lead (7-5) on a Clayshona Cogmon (Chester, Pa./STEM Academy) service ace. A 7-2 run by the visitors by Lancaster Bible in front by three (12-9). With Lancaster Bible leading 21-15, Juritsch slammed down a kill to spark a 6-2 surge that brought the Lions back within 23-21. Maddison Foley (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter School) had a service ace during the run. Lancaster Bible won the final two points on Bryn Athyn errors to take a 2-0 match lead.
The Chargers opened the final set by scoring 12 of the first 16 points to own a 12-4 cushion. The Lions would get as close as seven points (12-5) Lancaster Bible closed out the match with seven straight points.
Aleah Heyworth recorded a match-best eight kills, while Bekah Roberts had seven kills and a .583 hitting percentage. Allison Shuey added 26 assists, five digs, and two service aces.
Bryn Athyn (0-4) gets right back to work with a tri-match at the University of Valley Forge on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Lions will face the host Patriots at 4 p.m. and Gwynedd Mercy at 6 p.m.
