BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Hannah Dewees recorded a season-high nine kills for the Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-3) North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) loss to Penn State-Berks Thursday night in Asplundh Field House.
The Nittany Lions (3-6, 2-0 NEAC) opened up a quick 12-3 lead to kick off the opening set. Anja Weisser and Lydia Langlotz successfully blocked an Alexis Horst attack to jump start a 7-3 surge that closed the margin to 15-10. The run included a kill each from Dewees and Clayshona Cogman. Berks pulled away by scoring 10 of the final 13 points to take the first set.
Bryn Athyn fell behind 5-1 at the beginning of the second but scored back-to-back points to trim the gap to 5-3 on a Langlotz kill. Berks looked like it was about to go on a big run, but Dewees stopped a 3-0 run with back-to-back kills to keep Bryn Athyn within three (8-5). After the two Dewees kills, the Nittany Lions ran off seven of the next eight points to widen their lead to 15-6. Bryn Athyn would get as close as eight during the rest of the set.
The Lions took their first lead of the evening when an Alexis Juritsch recorded her only kill of the match to make the score 2-1 in the third. The advantage would be short lived as Berks ran off 18 straight points to take a 19-2 lead. Horst had eight of her match-high 16 kills and Madison Wojciechowski recorded three aces during the surge.
Juritsch led the Lions with 10 digs, while Amber Wood had eight assists and six digs.
Morgan Schwartz had 30 assists for Berks. Megan Lackman recorded a match-high 14 digs and four kills.
Bryn Athyn (0-7, 0-3 NEAC) heads to Cedar Crest for a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 16. The Lions will take on the host Falcons at 10 a.m. and Sarah Lawrence at noon.
