Women's volleyball defeated by Penn State Brandywine

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team was defeated by Penn State Brandywine 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-11) in a non-conference match Monday night in Asplundh Field House.

Hannah Dewees racked up seven kills, eight digs, and two aces to lead the Lions. Alexis Juritsch contributed six kills, seven digs, two assists, and one ace. Amber Wood added 16 assists and six digs.

Bryn Athyn's best set in terms of attacking was the opening set as the Lions had 10 kills and a .161 attack percentage. However, Brandywine (16-2) posted 13 kills and had an attack percentage of .323. The Nittany Lions stormed out to a 13-4 lead. Bryn Athyn managed to close the gap to seven numerous times in the set.

Brandywine sprinted out to a quick 6-1 lead to open set two. After head coach Dennis Hibbs called a timeout, Bryn Athyn scored three of the next four points to trim the gap to 7-4. The Nittany Lions managed to regain their momentum and would go on a 16-7 surge to take a set-high 12-point lead (23-11). Led by a pair of Dewees aces and a Clayshona Cogman kill, Bryn Athyn ran off six straight points to close the margin to 23-17.

In the final set, Brandywine recorded 15 kills without an attack error as it closed out the match.

Nikki Poissant paced the Nittany Lions with nine kills and nine digs, while Hannah Sarafinas had seven kills. Sullivan Stark added 28 assists and six digs.

Bryn Athyn (1-14) travels to the College of Saint Elizabeth for a North Eastern Athletic Conference quad match on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Lions face Penn College at 1 p.m. and Cazenovia at 5 p.m.
