LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team ended non-conference play with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-12) loss to host Cairn University Tuesday night Mason Activity Center.
Bryn Athyn nearly erased an early six-point deficit with a 6-1 run, which included a pair of Juritsch kills, to close the gap to 12-11 on an Anja Weisser kill. Leading 13-12, Cairn (6-17) reclaimed its grasp on the set by scoring 11 of the next 13 points to take its first double-digit lead, 24-14.
A Highlander setting error gave the Lions a 3-2 lead at the start of the second set. Cairn used a 16-5 surge to grab a double-double advantage, 18-8. The advantage grew to a set-high 12 points when Cairn rattled off three straight points to make the score 21-9.
Cairn got off to a fast start in the final set, taking an 18-5 lead. The Highlanders pushed the advantage to 15 (22-7) with a 3-0 burst. Bryn Athyn answered back with three consecutive points to close the gap to 24-12.
Lyntia Gwess posted a match-high 10 kills and a .556 attack percentage for the Highlanders. Haley Sheehan added seven kills and 14 digs.
Bryn Athyn (1-18) finishes up the 2017 season with a North Eastern Athletic Conference match on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Wells College at noon.
