Lions fall to host Arcadia in three sets

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-17) non-conference loss to host Arcadia University Wednesday night in Alumni Gymnasium.

Hannah Dewees led Bryn Athyn (1-3) with seven kills on 22 attempts and three digs, while Lex Juritsch added four kills on 19 attempts and five digs. Jenessa Lombardi recorded 17 assists. Chloe Levan had a team-high eight digs.

Arcadia (3-2) got off to a hot start and jumped out to a 16-4 advantage. A Juritsch kill later in the set sparked a run of four Bryn Athyn points and brought the Lions within 17-9. The Knights closed out the set with seven straight points.

Bryn Athyn battled Arcadia for the early stages of set two, staying within three points. Then, the Knights' Mackenize Hale served up three consecutive aces to widen the margin to 14-7. After a Dewees kill brought the Lions within 15-9, Arcadia recorded 10 of the final 14 points to win the second set.

The Lions had a strong third set as they had 10 kills and a .207 hitting percentage. Bryn Athyn broke a 3-all tie with back-to-back points to take a 5-3 lead, the Lions' first of the match. Arcadia answered back with three straight points, but a Dewees kill ended the surge and leveled the set at six. Arcadia was up 16-15 when it went on a match-ending 9-2 run.

Maddie Sehrt paced Arcadia with 10 kills. Lauren Enfield had nine kills, while Kaylee Bumpus added eight.

Bryn Athyn heads to Bryn Mawr for a tri-match with Immaculata and the host Owls on Saturday, Sept. 7 starting at noon.
