BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's cross country team kicks off 2017 by defeating Penn State Abington in a dual meet, 16-49, Friday afternoon on the Bryn Athyn campus.
Alair Brock (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek) dominated the competition as she ran the 4-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 29 seconds to win the race by nearly two minutes.
Miranda Hyatt ended the afternoon in second place, edging out teammate Laura Clymer (Willow Grove, Pa./ANC Girls School) by one second for the runner-up spot. Hyatt's time was 18:11, while Clymer posted an 18:12. Morgan Flynn (Anchorage, Alaska/East Anchorage) completed a top-four sweep as she put up the fourth-place time of 18:55.
LianHua Lenihan (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) secured the victory after she crossed the finish line in 19:40 to take sixth and close out the team scoring.
Brenna Sweeney (Bowie, Md./ANC Girls School), Gracelyn Bullard (Boston, Mass./APR Public Charter), Katharina Karrenbauer (Sarstedt, Germany/Gymnasium Sarstedt), Danae Elder (Rochester, Mich./ANC Girls School), and McKenna Smith (Glenview, Ill./ANC Girls School) occupied positions eight through 12. Sweeney comfortably finished in the eighth spot with a time of 20:08. Gracelyn Bullard finished five seconds ahead of Karrenbauer, 20:49 to 20:54, to win the battle for ninth. Elder had the 11th-place time of 22:04, one second ahead of Smith.
Lily Magliente was the top finisher for the Nittany Lions as she had a time of 19:19 to take fifth place.
The Lions' next race is the Penn State Abington Invitational at Lorimer Park on Saturday, Sept. 16.
