Field hockey tripped up at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College field hockey team was defeated by host Wilkes University, 7-0, in a non-conference contest Monday evening.

The Colonels (6-3) were up 3-0 after the opening 15 minutes thanks to goals by Morghan Murphy, Lauren Baldwin, and Cheyenne Mazzocca.

Bryn Athyn's defense was the story of the second quarter as the Lions, led by goalie Kailey Brower, kept Wilkes off the board and went into halftime only down three. Wilkes attempted 11 shots in the quarter, but Brower was able to stop all four shots that ended up on target.

In the third quarter, Wilkes found the back of the net four times to widen its lead to 7-0. Maddie Kelley started the quarter with her first goal of the night. Then, Murphy, Mazzocca, and Baldwin followed that up by all scoring their second goal of the game.

Brower kept the only shot she faced in the fourth quarter out of the net. It was the last of her 14 saves, her second-highest total of the season.

Bryn Athyn (0-5) returns to General Ronald K. Nelson Field on Saturday, Sept. 28 to face Southern Virginia at noon.
