Lions tripped by DeSales in first game after Christmas Break

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team returned to action after the Christmas Break and suffered a 90-71 non-conference loss to host DeSales University in the first round of the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall Gymnasium.

Lamarr Crenshaw led three Lions in double figures with 12 points. Rahim Washington and Gabe Michnya each added 10 points for Bryn Athyn (3-8).

Anthony Burr, Larry Stevenson III, and Kiaeem Comegys all had eight points. Burr was also Bryn Athyn's top rebounder with eight boards.

Led by five Stevenson III points, Bryn Athyn ran off seven straight points to race out to a 13-7 lead on a Washington layup at the 15:48 mark of the opening half. The Lions remaining ahead until DeSales' Mike Bealer connected on a 3-pointer to spark a 10-0 Bulldog run that gave them a 27-18 cushion.

After Crenshaw drained a pair of free throws to pull the Lions within six (33-27), the Bulldogs (7-4) rattled off 18 of the next 27 points to widen the margin to 51-36 with 1:22 left before the break.

DeSales carried its momentum over to the second half, as the Bulldogs opened the final 20 minutes on an 11-4 surge in a 4-minute span to take a 62-40 advantage. Bryn Athyn got as close as 12 (66-54) on a Comegys jumper with 10:30 left in the game.

Bealer finished the game with a game-high 21 points in 16 minutes to lead five Bulldogs in double figures. Tracy Simsick contributed 15 points. Matt Kachelries added 11 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs shot 48.4 percent (31-of-64) from the field, while the Lions made 40.3 percent (31-of-77) of their shots. DeSales also enjoyed a 13-5 advantage in made free throws.

Bryn Athyn will face either McDaniel or Johnson and Wales in the consolation round of the tournament on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m.
