SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Vojtech Luza and Dakota Ulmer each recorded a goal and an assist as the Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team took third place in the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational with a 4-1 victory over Post University Sunday afternoon.
Sheldon Brett put Bryn Athyn (3-6-0) on the board with his first collegiate goal at the 10:35 of the opening goal to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. The game's opening goal was assisted by Devon Becker and Brian Lange. Luza doubled the Lion advantage to 2-0 at 16:13 with his third goal of the season. Jake Heckenberger and Ulmer assisted on the game-winning goal.
Evan Lugo cut the Lion advantage in half when he scored on the power play with 90 seconds remaining in the first period.
Bryn Athyn (3-6-0) regained its two-goal advantage on an Ulmer short-handed goal, this third goal of the year, at 13:40 of the second period with assisted by Alex Tan and Luza.
Eric Higgins put the game away when he scored an empty-net goal, his first in a Bryn Athyn uniform, with 40 seconds left in the contest.
McKenzie Chalmers stopped 25 shots, including the final 19 shots on goal he faced, to earn the victory. Brandon Brown had 37 saves for Post (2-5-0).
Post was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Bryn Athyn went 0-for-4.
Bryn Athyn will take to the Junge Pavilion ice for the first time this season when the Lions play host to Anna Maria on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m.
