BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team suffered a 7-1 loss to Penn State Abington in its 2019 season opener Saturday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson.
The contest was the inaugural Jaden Truskey Cup, named after Penn State Abington men's soccer player Jaden Truskey who died in a car accident last January.
Owen Ovecka scored the Bryn Athyn goal with an assist from Christian Smith at the 40:58 mark of the opening half. Smith floated the ball into the center of the field from the left wing. Ovecka tracked it down and volleyed it on a bounce past a frozen Esteban Leon to make the score 3-1.
Hernando Villamil led the Penn State Abington attack with a four-goal effort. Villamil scored twice in the first half, including a penalty kick at 7:18, and twice more in the second half in a 24-second span.
Michael Thomas, Sebastian Krysztofowicz, and Ryan Hannigan also scored for the Nittany Lions.
Bryn Athyn keeper DJ Eldridge made eight saves, seven in the opening half. Leon and Trent Morris each played one half for Penn State Abington and made one save apiece.
The Lions will go on the road to take on Juniata on Friday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m.
