ALTOONA, Pa. – A successful Brant Aughenbaugh penalty kick with 1:03 left in regulation snapped a 1-all tie and gave Penn State Altoona a 2-1 victory over the Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team Saturday afternoon.
Aughenbaugh drew the game-deciding penalty as he was taken to the ground from behind by a Pete Comas slide tackle just inside the penalty area. Bryn Athyn keeper DJ Eldridge—who made a career-high 10 saves—picked the right corner, however, Aughenbaugh's penalty just snuck into the lower-left corner of the goal.
Penn State Altoona (1-4-0) took a 1-0 lead on a Dakota Casey goal 17:33 into the contest. Casey got behind the defense after tracking down an Aughenbaugh pass.
The Ovecka brothers would link up on a set piece for the Lions at 69:10 to level the match at one. Ryan Ovecka took the free kick from the left sideline 25 yards from the end line. He lofted the ball into the box where Owen Ovecka got his head to it from eight yards away and put in inside the right post. It was Owen Ovecka's second goal of the season.
Penn State Altoona keeper Tanner Yaw stopped for shots to earn the win.
Bryn Athyn returns home to face Marymount (Va.) University on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
