BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Junior defender Pete Comas scored his first goal of 2019, but Gwynedd Mercy would score twice in the second half to hand the Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team a 2-1 non-conference loss Saturday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
Bryn Athyn was the better of the two teams for the first 15 minutes and Comas made the dominance pay off as he got his head to a Matheus Chaves free kick and put the ball into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Lions the 1-0 lead.
The goal was the fourth of Comas' career and the first since he scored in a 6-1 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth on October 18, 2017.
Gwynedd Mercy (2-) leveled the score 16 minutes into the second half. Tyler Bascone recorded the equalizer as he reached out with his right foot as the edge of the six-yard box and reached directed an Evan Kirby pass into the left side of the net.
Hugh Lynch put the visiting Griffins in front at 74:37 with a right-footed shot that went into the right side of the goal. Kevin Bowers played a square ball from the right wing to an open Lynch. Lynch made one touch and then took his shot.
DJ Eldridge recorded six saves for the Lions, while Tyler Blair earned the win with a five-save effort.
Bryn Athyn (0-7-0) heads to Delaware to take on Wesley on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in Dover.
