Volleyball tripped up at Wesley, 3-0

DOVER, Del. – Lex Juritsch recorded a team-high six kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-18) non-conference loss to host Wesley College Thursday night in Wentworth Gymnasium.

Briana Cliney added five kills, while Jenessa Lombardi had four kills, 13 assists, and five digs.

The opening set saw Wesley (4-5) jump out to an early 10-4 lead. Behind a pair of service aces by Hannah Dewees, Bryn Athyn came back with four straight points to trim the gap to 10-8. The Wolverines closed out the set by going on a 15-3 run. Wesley posted a .400 hitting percentage, while Bryn Athyn hit -0.028.

Wesley broke a 3-3 set two tie by scoring seven consecutive points to take a 10-3 advantage. After the Wolverines opened up a 15-5 lead, Dewees recorded her third service ace of the night to bring the Lions within 15-7. Two straight Juritsch kills later in the set would make the score 16-9. The Wolverines scored nine of the final 13 points to win the set.

The third set was Bryn Athyn's best of the match as the Lions recorded 11 kills and a .091 hitting percent, both match highs. Back-to-back Lombardi kills sparked a spurt of three straight points that trimmed a 16-9 Wesley lead to 16-12. With the score sitting at 19-15, Wesley scored three points in a row to extend its lead back to seven.

Regan Healey had a double-double consisting of 10 kills and 10 digs to lead the Wolverines. Emily Waldridge added eight kills and 10 digs.

Bryn Athyn (2-5) returns to Asplundh Field House for a tri-match against FDU-Florham and Ursinus on Saturday, Sept. 14. The Lions take on FDU-Florham at 11 a.m. and Ursinus at 3 p.m.
