Dewees records double-double in four-set loss to FDU Florham in Bryn Athyn Tri-Match

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team dropped the opening match of its home tri-match against FDU-Florham, 3-1 (25-17, 25-27, 25-20, 25-12), Saturday morning in Asplundh Field House.

Hannah Dewees paced the Lions with a team-high 10 kills and a career-high 16 digs for her fourth career double-double. It was the third time this season that Dewees racked up at least 10 kills in a match.

Lex Juritsch contributed eight kills and a season- and team-best 17 digs, while Briana Cliney added eight kills, two solo blocks, and four block assists. Jenessa Lombardi had 29 assists.

After opening the match with four ties and a pair of lead changes, FDU Florham (4-3) began to pull away with four straight points to take a 12-7 lead. A Dewees kill sparked a run of three consecutive points, that included to Devil attack errors, to bring the Lions back within 16-14. With the score sitting at 20-17 in favor of FDU Florham, a Devil kill and four straight Lion errors ended the set.

The second set was Bryn Athyn's best of the match as the Lions recorded 13 kills and a .220 hitting percentage. The Lions led for a majority of the set, including a set-high 13-8 advantage. FDU Florham would slowly come back to eventually level the set at 20. Bryn Athyn faced a set point, trailing 24-23, but stayed in the set thanks to a FDU Florham error. The Lions went in front 26-25 thanks to an Alliana Brock and Clayshonia Cogmon block and won the set on a Devil error.

The Devils built a 13-6 advantage to open the third set. Trailing 17-11, Bryn Athyn—led by a pair of Juritsch kills—rallied back with seven of the next nine points to close the margin to 19-18. FDU Florham answered back with a set-ending 6-2 surge to take a two-sets-to-one lead.

Three straight Bryn Athyn points, capped by a Chloe Levan service ace, trimmed a 10-5 FDU Florham lead to 10-8. After the Devils lead grew to seven, back-to-back Lion points brought the team within 16-11. It would be the closest the Lions would get because the Devils won nine of the match's last 10 points.

Nathalia Padron (19 kills, 14 digs), Jessica Garreffa (13 kills, 19 digs), and Kacie Ros (42 assists, 13 digs) all had double doubles for the Devils.

Bryn Athyn (2-6) will take on Ursinus in the second match of the day at 3 p.m. in Asplundh Field House.
