BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team dropped its Saturday afternoon Colonial States Athletic Conference match against Wilson, 3-1 (8-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-22) in Asplundh Field House.
Hannah Dewees had a strong match for the Lions, tallied a team-high 12 kills and 17 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Jenessa Lombardi notched her fourth double-double this year with 31 assists and 12 digs.
Bryn Athyn dominated the opening set, recording 13 kills and only one attack error and forcing Wilson into eight attack errors and only four kills. The Lions ran off the first eight points of the set. The gap hit double digits for the first time during a 5-0 run that extended the margin to 14-2. With the lead sitting at 16-7, Bryn Athyn ended the set on a 9-1 run. Dewees had five kills in the set, while Lombardi added three of her four kills.
Set two saw the roles reverse at the start with Wilson getting out to a 16-6 lead. Thanks to a Juritsch ace and kills from Clayshonia Cogmon, Dewees, and Alliana Brock, Bryn Athyn ran off six straight points to cut the deficit to 16-12. After Wilson reclaimed a seven-point lead, Cliney had a kill and an ace during a 3-0 spurt that got Bryn Athyn within 22-19—the closest the Lions would get in the set.
The Lions used a 9-3 run, featuring two Dewees aces and two Cliney kills, to open up a 12-7 set-three lead. Then, Wilson turned it on as the Phoenix outscored the Lions 18-3 during the rest of the set, including the final nine points, to take the match lead.
The fourth set was tied at 19 when Wilson won four consecutive points to pull ahead 23-19. Bryn Athyn trimmed the gap to 24-22 with a 3-1 surge, including two Juritsch kills. However, Wilson would win the match on the next point on Anika Eigen-Zucchi's 15th kills of the match.
Tioleaoauli Posiulai paced Wilson (9-7, 2-1 CSAC) with a match-high 20 kills, a .314 hitting percentage, and 16 digs. Jenna Mongold had 32 assists and 14 digs. Eigen-Zucchi added 15 digs to end the day with a double-double.
Bryn Athyn (3-10, 1-1 CSAC) travels to Notre Dame (Md.) to take on the defending conference champion Gators on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
