BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-16) sweep at the hands of the defending Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) champion Notre Dame (Md.) Wednesday night.
The Lions hung with the Gators in the first set, staying with three points, until Notre Dame went on a 7-1 run to open up a 16-8 lead. After Bryn Athyn closed the gap to 18-13, Notre Dame scored seven of the final eight points to claim the set.
Notre Dame jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the beginning of the second set. Led by a kill each from Clayshonia Cogmon, Jurtisch, and Dewees, Bryn Athyn went on a 6-3 spurt to cut the gap to 9-6. The Gators went on another big run, this time is was an 11-4 surge, to take a double-digit lead (20-10).
Bryn Athyn took a 2-1 set-three lead on a kill by Allaina Brock, one of three that she had during the match. Notre Dame rallied to move ahead 6-3, but Bryn Athyn ran off three straight points to level the set at six on a Brock service ace. With the set tied at 14, Notre Dame won 11 of the last 13 points to win the match.
Notre Dame (15-2, 3-0 CSAC) got a match-best 12 kills from Michalla Sheedy. Mary Marquez tallied seven kills, while Kayleigh Davis racked up six kills.
Bryn Athyn (3-11, 1-2 CSAC) gets right back to work with a non-conference match against King's (Pa.) on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. in Asplundh Field House.
