Box Score Clarks Summit, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer
team fell to Baptist Bible College, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon.
Blake
McCurdy and Mark Apedo
scored goals for the Lions.
Baptist Bible took an early lead scoring at the 3:44 mark.
McCurdy pressured the defense, chested a high pass down from Ik Jin
Hu and got past the Baptist Bible defense to score the game tying
goal.
At the 10:04 minute, the Lions got a free kick from a Defenders'
foul. Hu, from 35 yards out, took a shot at goal and hit the
crossbar.
The Defenders would score two goals to take a 3-1 lead. Mark
Apedo took the ball to the far right corner, evaded two defenders,
turned and scored a goal into the upper right corner to bring the
goal deficit within one, before heading into the break.
Five minutes into the second half, the Defenders scored to take
a 4-2 lead. With 20 minutes left in the game, McCurdy took a pass
from the right side, broke away from the defense and got a shot off
at goal. But the Defenders' goalie jumped to get an arm on the
ball, and deflected it from the goal.
Baptist recorded one more goal, ending the game 5-2.
Dustin Synnesvedt made eight saves between the pipes for the
Lions.
Coach Cooper expressed, "I think we kept a good pace with the
opponent for the first half and put together some nice runs, but
some minor injuries and fouls caught up with us in the second half
and we let the game get away from us. On the positive side,
though, I'm pleased with the hustle the guys showed, and we now
have a clearer idea of the things we need to work on. We'll
pull it together and make some adjustments during the week, and
then come out ready to compete again on Saturday against
Christendom."
Bryn Athyn heads on the road Saturday, September 8th to face
Christendom College. The game is set for 2:00 pm.
