Box Score Bryn Athyn, Pa. – A goal from Junior Blake McCurdy in the 85th minute was the difference as the Bryn Athyn men's soccer team opened the season Thursday with a 1-0 win over Williamson in front of their home crowd.
The Lions dominated the stat sheet as they held a commanding 33-10 advantage in shots, including a 14-6 margin in shots on goal. Bryn Athyn also had seven corner kicks compared to just three by Williamson.
Freshman Christian Buss led the Lions with a game high 10 shots, including four shots on goal. Sophomore Goalkeeper Johnny Walker made six saves in net and recorded his first career shutout.
The scoring sequence began when Travis McCurdy brought the ball down the right side of the field and sent a thru ball to Blake McCurdy. Blake McCurdy then cut into the box and took a shot on the right side of the goal, missing Williamson's goalie. Blake McCurdy leads the Lions with four goals; he has scored a goal in every game this season.
McCurdy expressed, " We played well as a team, and worked hard to pull off the win. We got a little lucky with finally getting the ball into the net, but the team well deserved the win."
Coach Cooper added," Obviously, I'm glad we came away with the win, but at the same time we still have parts of our game we need to refine. I'm happy with the amount of shots we got off but we'll work on getting more on target and a better shot selection.
The Lions will host PSU Harrisburg next Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
