Men's Soccer Tops Valley Forge Christian 5-0

Box Score

Bryn Athyn, PA- The Bryn Athyn College Lions ended their season with a roar today, triumphing 5-0 over Valley Forge Christian College. Before the game, the Lions honored their four seniors, Dan Cook, Philip Gyasi, Benjamin Useche and Blake McCurdy, for their years of dedication and commitment to the program.

The Lions jumped out of the gate early, Blake McCurdy beating his man with pure speed down the left wing and crashing the ball in near post for the first goal. McCurdy then was the beneficiary of a smart through ball from Greg Synnestvedt, his shot being well saved by the Valley Forge keeper, only for Synnestvedt to bang in the rebound for his first of the game. Shortly after Philip Gyasi played it across the box to Santiago Tabares, who tapped into the empty net only for the goal to be called back on an offside call.

The score remained 2-0 until the beginning of the second half, when Alexander Pafford beat his man on the right wing by putting the ball through his legs, before cutting it back to Ian Crowther at the top of the box, Crowther smartly finishing for Bryn Athyn's third. Tabares had plagued Valley Forge down the right wing the whole game, and it was his cross that created a scramble in the visiting teams box, Greg Synnestvedt poking the ball home from close range for his second, and Bryn Athyn's fourth. The best goal was saved for last, as Benjamin Useche collected a pass from McCurdy, and from the right side of the box chipped the ball over the keeper and into the side netting of the far post. Johnny Walker earned the shutout with some typically great saves, and some brave defending from Mike Redondo, Slava Tikhonov, Graham Lermitte, Josh Alden and Nelson Lopez ensured that Walker's shutout remained intact.
