Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win of the Season over Valley Forge Christian 5-2

Phoenixville, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team picked up their first win of the 2014 season over Valley Forge Christian, 5-2 in Friday afternoon action. 

Anthony Curico led the Lions with two goals. Siafa Dempster scored one goal and one assist. Slava Tikhonov and Nelson Lopez scored a goal each. 

The Lions took the lead at the 28:35 mark , after Jacob Dillion passed a through ball to Curico, who scored to put the Lions on the board.  The Lions kept the offensive pressure, at the 36:35 minute mark, Siafa Dempster scored upper 90, of a rebound from Usufu Johnson's shot from inside the 18 yard line.  

The Patriots would score their lone goal of the first half at 39:13 to bring the game within one. The Lions answered with a goal three minutes later, Dempster brought the ball up the left side of the field, passing the ball to Tikhonov who was trailing on the right side and scored to give the Lions a 3-1 lead going into the halftime break. 

The Lions kept their offensive pressure, scoring at the 59:08 mark, Lopez tapped in a rebound on the left side of the net to extend Bryn Athyn's lead 4-1.  Curcio scored eight minute later from deep in the right corner, hitting the goalie and falling into the net to build the Lion lead.

Valley Forge Christian scored at 77:04 to chip away at the Bryn Athyn lead, but was not enough and Lions would pick up their first win of the season. 

Johnny Walker made two saves in net for the Lions.

Bryn Athyn returns to the field Saturday, August 30th for their home opener against Christendom College at 3:30 pm on the new athletic field.
