Men's Soccer Earns First NEAC Program Win Against PSU-Berks, 3-2

Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team picked up their first program NEAC conference win against Penn State Berks, 3-2 in Saturday afternoon action. Prior to the game, Bryn Athyn College Athletics Department held a field ceremony, for their new athletic field with members from the college, community and friends.

Director of Athletics, Matthew Kennedy expressed, "This field will serve as a stage for our student-athletes to showcase all of the lessons we teach of honesty, integrity, and service to others, right here on this field."

Bryn Athyn was led by Siafa Dempster with two goals.  Usufu Johnson scored the game wining goal for the Lions.

The Lions began the afternoon with an early advantage, as Dempster earned a penalty kick in the Nittany Lion territory, for a late tackle in the penalty box. Bryn Athyn would hold the lead for three minutes, until Penn State Berks tied the game at 1-1, after a scoring a lose ball inside the Lion's 18 yard line.  Both teams would enter the halftime break tied at 1-1, with the Nittany Lions outshooting the Lions 13-9. 

Bryn Athyn increased their offensive pressure in the second half , scoring at 61:35 mark to retake a one goal lead. Dempster played a through ball from half field, moving down the right side of Penn State Berk's field , launched a ball into the right corner of the net, too far for the their goalie to put a glove on to save.  10 minutes later, Johnson scored an insurance goal to give the Lions a two-goal lead with 20 minutes left in the game.  Nittany Lions didn't give up, scoring at the 76th mark to bring the game within one goal again.  Bryn Athyn would pack in their defensive efforts to earn their first program conference win at home.

Head Coach, Daniel Perez said, "Today we played with heart and composure. We wanted the win and we fought for it. My players are understanding our system and structure. I see them improving every game and playing better each day. There's no doubt in my mind that today they fought like Lions." 

Ryan Weinkopff made eight saves in net for the Lions.

Bryn Athyn will host Williamson next Thursday in non-conference action at 4:00 pm.
