Box Score Bryn Athyn, Pa- The (2-1) Bryn Athyn men's soccer team returned home to face the (2-2) Aggies of Delaware Valley. Today marked the third time the teams would meet over the past four years, with the Aggies winning the past two matches.
Delaware Valley would get on the board early on a through ball to the left of Ryan Weinkopff. The two teams would trade offensive chances through the first 10 minutes, but the score would remain 1-0.
The Aggies would strike again at the 11th minute on a rebound off of the gloves of Weinkopff, putting Delaware Valley up 2-0.
The Lions would not be phased by playing from behind. The Lions controlled the ball for the next 10 minutes with multiple chances at the Aggies goal. The play by Edgar Rodriguez inside the Aggie box could not be ignored, as Rodriguez had two back-to-back chances but could not put the ball away.
The teams would trade offensive pressure through the next 20 minutes. At the 37th minute, Usufu Johnson would cut loose down the bench side towards the Aggie goal. Johnson crossed a ball to the head of Farid Amari, only to be saved by the Delaware Valley goalie.
The teams would end the half with Delaware Valley leading 2-0.
Sabastian Rosero would look to get the Lions on the board at the 55th minute on a throw in into the center of the Aggie box. The ball was deflected back on the foot to Rosero, who would take a shot just wide on the near side of the goal.
The Aggies would strike at the 60th minute to increase their lead to 3-0.
The Lions would keep their intensity up, as Safia Dempster struck a ball from the bench side into the Aggie box. Rodriguez would make contact and pushed the ball towards the goal, only to be cleanly defended by Delaware Valley to eliminate the Lions scoring chance.
Delaware Valley would go on to win the game. The Lions are now 3-2 overall with one more non-conference game next week at home against Valley Forge before starting NEAC conference play.
