Boler's record day lifts field hockey to 11-0 win over Sweet Briar

Box Score

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Payton Boler recorded a program-record 12 points as the Bryn Athyn College field hockey team picked up a comfortable 11-0 victory over visiting Sweet Briar College Saturday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.

Boler had a program-record five goals and two assists to smash the previous record of seven points which she co-held with Bri Lennox.

Lennox had a strong day offensive, scoring three goals for the second time this season. Riley Owen picked up a goal and an assist, while Jaclyn Martin and Sarah Reed also found the back of the net.

The scoring onslaught started just 6:47 into the contest when Lennox slapped the ball on goal from outside the arc. The ball deflected off of a Vixen defender and into the net to get the Lions on the board. Martin put her name into the goal column at 12:13 after slamming home a Boler centering pass.

Lennox made it 3-0 after finding the ball in a mad scramble in front of the Vixen net following a shot by Sabrina Colbridge. The advantage grew to four on Riley Owen's first career goal at the 31:33 mark.

Boler began her scoring tear with 2:11 left in the opening half on a penalty stroke that was given when Sweet Briar goalie Kayleigh Ness covered the ball. She managed to squeeze another goal in before the halftime horn to make it 7-0 at the break. With just 19 seconds in the half, Boler was unmarked at the left post and was given a pass from Owen for an easy tap-in.

Halftime didn't stop Boler's momentum as she scored the Lions' first three goals of the second half to increase the margin to 9-0 with 15:24 left in the contest. Lennox completed her hat-trick at the 58:25 mark when she put home the rebound of a Brittany Gunther shot.

A Sarah Reed unassisted goal with 5:13 remaining closed out the scoring and gave Bryn Athyn a school record in scoring.

The Bryn Athyn defense turned in a strong effort in front of goalies Macey Mitchell and Anja Weisser. Mitchell, the winning goalie, didn't see a shot in the first half, while Weisser had to make one save during the second 35 minutes.

Ness was called on to make 20 saves for Sweet Briar (0-9).

Bryn Athyn (2-8) returns to action against Delaware Valley College on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. on General Nelson Field.
