Box Score ABINGTON, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team gave up two goals in the opening two minutes and couldn't fully recover as the Lions suffered a 2-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference loss to Penn State-Abington Wednesday afternoon on the Abington Memorial Field.
Abington (4-5, 2-0 NEAC) scored the first goal of the contest just 46 seconds in on a transition goal from Marco Martins. Chris Schlegel set up Martins with a low cross from the right side of the penalty area. Martins collected the ball and took the game's first shot, which ended up in the Bryn Athyn net.
The Nittany Lions doubled the lead to 2-0 when Andrew Costa scored at the 1:57 mark after receiving a pass from Martins.
Kevin Conroy scored his first goal of the season at 10:31 to pull Bryn Athyn (2-4, 0-2 NEAC) within one at 10:31. After an Abington foul, Abdul Sule lofted his free kick from 40 yards away into the penalty area. Conroy outleaped the defense and snuck his header inside the right post.
In the second goal, the Lions attempted four shots at the Abington goal. Three of those shots ended up on target and were all stopped by Ty Morris.
Bryn Athyn keeper Quentin Hager finished the match with a pair of saves.
The Lions return home to face Wilson College for the NEAC home opener on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.
