Men's soccer defeated by Wilson 2-1

Box Score

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team gave up two goals in the final 13 minutes of its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match against Wilson College and fell to the visiting Phoenix 2-1 Saturday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.

After a scoreless opening 69 minutes, Bryn Athyn took a 1-0 lead on a Wilson own goal at 69:24. Edgar Rodriguez played a through ball in the center of the field to Brennen McCurdy. McCurdy got one touch on the ball and then Phoenix defender Luis Cevallos attempted to clear it away. Cevallos' clearance struck the head of teammate Javier Gonzalez-Sanchez and floated over the head of keeper Dan Perry into an empty net.

Ethan Russ evened the score at one with a chip shot from the right side of the Bryn Athyn net at the 77:06 mark. Just over five minutes later, Aaron Russ put the visitors in front as he collected a loose ball inside the penalty area and found the back of the net.

The Lions had one chance late to force overtime, but McCurdy's shot with 28 seconds remaining sailed over the bar.

Perry finished the match with five saves for Wilson (4-3-1, 2-1-0 NEAC). Quentin Hager had two stops, including a penalty kick with 1:12 left to keep the Lions within one.

Bryn Athyn (2-5-0, 0-3-0 NEAC) heads to Valley Forge for a rescheduled non-conference match against the host Patriots on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m.
