Field hockey upended up by Cedar Crest

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College field hockey team was shutout by Cedar Crest College, 4-0, in a non-conference match on a rainy Wednesday night on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.

Annalise Unger broke the scoreless deadlock at the 9:23 mark of the opening half on a penalty corner. Mercedes Melo played a short corner to Unger, who then beat Bryn Athyn keeper Macey Mitchell (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Techincal) off her right foot.

Elizabeth Lamm doubled the advantage to 2-0 just over nine minutes later as she converted a penalty stroke inside the left post. Hannah Gouck closed out the first-half scoring with the Falcons' third goal at 25:44 on a shot from the left wing.

Melo recorded the lone goal in the second half with just under 30 minutes left on a scrum in front of the Bryn Athyn net.

Emma Ryan had six saves to earn the shutout for Cedar Crest (1-1). Mitchell made 11 stops for the Lions.

Bryn Athyn (0-2) travels to Keystone College for a non-conference match on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.
