Box Score BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team was upended by visiting DeSales University, 5-1, in a non-conference clash Saturday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.
Matheus Chaves scored his first collegiate goal just 3:20 after halftime to pull the Lions (1-5-0) within 2-1. Chaves was the recipient of a favorable bounce as DeSales keeper TJ Corcoran came off his line to punch away a throw-in, but the attempt ended up on the head of Chaves, giving him the easy goal.
The Bulldogs (4-2-0) managed to regain their two-goal cushion at the 53:38 mark as Zach Reichard scored on a shot from the just outside the right corner of the penalty area after stealing a goal kick. Michael Kirby added DeSales' fourth goal just 1:40 later with a shot from 22 yards away.
Dan Rumpf closed out the scoring by heading home a long Kishan Modessa cross at the left post with 8:01 left to play.
DeSales took a 2-0 lead on a pair of Justin Habick goals in the first 28 minutes of the opening half.
Shane McCurdy recorded a career-high nine saves in the loss for Bryn Athyn. Corcoran stopped one shot in 68:46 of action. Jake Padula finished out the match in goal for DeSales.
Bryn Athyn hits the road for its next match that will come on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Gwynedd Mercy at 4 p.m.
