Women's basketball win season opener

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - Women's basketball hosted Penn State Berks for their season opener and started fast and held on for a season opening win. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Kaylia Duncan led the Lions in scoring with 17 points. She added 5 steals and 5 rebounds
  • Terrae Lewis and Reilly Ward joined Duncan double figures with 15 points and 12 points respectively. 
  • Aida Barry was the leading rebounder with 12
How it Happened
  • Lions opened up the game on an 11-2 run thanks to their dribble drive and press
  • Ward would hit three a three to close the first quarter to give the Lions a 9 point advantage (20-11) at the end of 1
  • Second quarter would play out the same as the first with the Lions flying all over the court.
  • Duncan would steal the ball and pass the ball Lewis for the layup to give the Lions their largest lead at 23 points (36-13)
  • Lions would take a 40-23 lead into the break. 
  • Berks would come out firing in the second half outscoring the Lions 20-13 in the third frame to cut the lead to 10 points
  • The teams would play even basketball in the fourth and Lions would win 68-59

"What a great way to open the season with a win at home in front of such a huge crowd with lots of familiar faces. We came out and set the tone early, focusing on our pace, our intensity, and our focus. This is a great way to kick things off, and just keep building for the next one," Coach Travis Ponton said.
