Women's Volleyball Topped PSU-Brandywine 3-1

Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team topped PSU-Brandywine 3-1 in Thursday night action. The game scores were 28-26, 25-22, 21-25, and 25-21.

Kaitlyn Brock led the Lions with 24 kills, 16 digs, and three service aces. Cathleen Curran notched 24 digs and four service aces, while Cree Gurney added 17 digs and six kills. Haley Schmucker recorded 37 assists and 14 digs.

During set one, momentum switched back and forth between Bryn Athyn and PSU-Brandywine. With the set tied at 23-23, PSU-Brandywine killed the ball to take the lead 23-24. Brock killed the ball, fighting off set point, and tying the set at 24-24. Brock continued to dominate at the net, coming up with a huge block to put the Lions in the lead 25-24. PSU-Brandywine fought off yet another set point, killing the ball to tie the set at 25-25. With a service error by PSU-Brandywine, Bryn Athyn once again took the lead. But PSU-Brandywine wasn't ready to give up the fight, killing the ball to tie the set at 26-26. Gurney killed the ball down the line, giving the Lions a 27-26 lead. Brock finished the tightly contested set with a roll shot to the middle of the court.

Momentum continued to switch back and forth during set two, as both teams fought for each and every point. With the set tied late at 22-22, a serving error by PSU-Brandywine put the Lions in the lead. From there on out Bryn Athyn never looked back. Schmucker notched a service ace, Brock killed the ball cross court, and Gurney finished the set at 25-22 with a block.

Late in set three, Bryn Athyn came up short 21-25.

During set four, the teams found themselves neck and neck. At 22-21, Brock killed the ball to give the Lions a two point lead. Curran finished out the set with two service aces, giving Bryn Athyn the win. 

Curran stated, "I got chills from the energy on the court tonight. We all fought hard to win that game. I am so proud of my team and will continue to be. We have really come together and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the season holds." 

The Lions head on the road to face Christendom Saturday, September 14th. The match is slated for 12:30pm.
