Women's Volleyball Wins Their Home Opener vs Valley Forge Christian

Bryn Athyn, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn College women's volleyball team won their home opener 3-0 against Valley Forge Christian in Thursday night action. The game scores were 25-20, 25-8, and 25-17. This is the first program win for the new head coach Courtney Kozar.

Kaitlyn Brock led the lions with 11 kills, 12 digs, and two service aces. Cree Gurney notched seven kills and six digs, while Cathleen Curran recorded 17 digs. Holly Adams added six kills and four service aces, and Catherine Kirk dished out 26 assists and two service aces.

In set one momentum switched back and forth between the Lions and the Patriots. With the score tied at 11-11, Taylor Davis came up big with a block to switch the momentum in favor of the Lions. Bryn Athyn pulled ahead with kills coming from Brock, Kirk, Adams, and Gurney. At 24-16, the Patriots put up a fight, holding off four set points. At 24-20, Alexus Kolb received the serve, and Kirk dumped the second ball over to end the set.

Set two, Bryn Athyn came out strong with the momentum on their side. At 15-6, Adams served seven consecutive points to pull the Lions ahead 22-7. Kills coming from Gurney, Davis, and Brock finished out the set at 25-8.

In set three, the Lions found themselves down early. With the set tied at 9-9, Kirk served seven points in a row to put Bryn Athyn out in front 15-10. Gurney, Brock, and Davis all won points at the net, bringing the score to 24-17. At match point, the Patriots over-passed a ball, and Adams put it away. 

Adams stated, "I'm really proud of how the team played tonight. Our defense did an amazing job getting the ball to our setter. We're excited to get our first win under our belts, and we're looking forward to our home tri-match this weekend." 

Head Coach Courtney Kozar expressed, "The girls' hard work is beginning to pay off, a great TEAM win!"

The Lions return to the court Saturday, September 7th to host Bryn Mawr and St. Elizabeth. The games are slated for 11am and 1pm.
