Box Score Langhorne, Pa. – Bryn Athyn College women's soccer team traveled to Cairn University for the opening of their 2016 campaign. Unfortunately, the offensive power from the Highlanders dominated the Lions as a 3-0 triumph favored the home team.
Bryn Athyn College (0-1) found themselves behind Cairn University (1-0) roughly three minutes (3:20) into the opening tip after an unassisted goal, 1-0, from sophomore forward Emerick Payton (Hyndman, Pa.). The Lions could not muster the offense side as the Highlanders held a 16-0 shot advantage along with the game's initial goal at halftime.
Junior forward Chelsea Czarnik (Philadelphia, Pa.) was able to get the Lions' going with two shots in the opening second half. Ten minutes later (55:19), freshman midfielder Marie Daum (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) attempted a shot but was ceased by junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Paugh (Galloway, N.J.) The Highlanders struck again at the 56th minute (56:29) when senior midfielder Hannah Morrison (Fayetteville, N.C.) linked with freshman midfielder Katie Ruitto (Ellington, Conn.) for the game's second goal, 2-0. Roughly 90 seconds later (57:47) senior forward Meghan Wilson (New Hope, Pa.) recorded an unassisted goal, 3-0. Freshman forward Rose Glass (Philadelphia, Pa.) was able to attempt a shot during the 72nd and 79th minute area but both were saved by senior goalkeeper Meghan Wilson (New Hope, Pa.). Czarnik had the last chance to prevent a shut-out but her shot was also saved by Wilson as the Lions came away empty handed.
On offense, Wilson recorded game-high eight shots and collected three saves on defense as a goalkeeper. Ruitto and Payton attempted seven and four shots respectively while a series of team effort by six other players totaled the Highlanders' 27 shots. Paugh collected two saves and earned her first win (1-0) of the season.
For the Lions, Czarnik, Daum, and Glass highlighted scoring opportunities. Freshmen goalkeepers Alyssa Bosler (Fairless Hill, Pa.) and Allison Warren (Lebanon, Pa.) split time at the goal as the former collected two saves while the latter recorded five saves. Bosler took the loss (0-1) for today's season opener.
The Lions welcome Penn State-Berks on Tuesday, September 6, for the opening of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at 2:00 p.m.
